History of EngageAustin
I have an idea! How do I give?
EngageAustin is an initiative that was started in May of 2008 as the church body and individuals started to dream of how we can give our lives to the work of the Lord. Our hope is that our senses become acute to what God has planned for us to do. That people with resources, dreams, and passions will give so that those in need will experience the life changing message of Christ.
EngageAustin has been our partnership with TX Reachout in remodeling a home for women out of prison as well as the relationships we have formed with David Pena and some of the folks that have been through his discipleship program.
We are also moving in the direction of partnering with Oak Springs Elementary - providing long term mentoring relationships with the kids as well as friendship and support to the staff. We will be working to provide for needs as simple as school supplies and books for the library.
In John chapter 9 you are probably familiar with the story of Jesus spitting in the dirt and rubbing it in the eyes of a man born blind to heal him and make him see. The religeous leaders asked the man if Jesus was a sinner because he healed someone on the Sabbath. The man answered with simple faith "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know, I was blind but now I see." Jesus loved in action and in truth and we as a body desire to do the same.
Our hope for EngageAustin is that we will be able to support the dreams and visions of our people and help create a culture that invests long term in the movement of God in our city.
